Angelin Rose January, 21, of Molalla was sentenced to more than four years in prison on Monday, after pleading guilty to charges that she caused the crash that killed her father last April while driving high on methamphetamine.

In addition to 52 months incarceration, January will have her driver's license suspended for eight years from the date of her release and was ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution to State Farm Insurance and $63,000 to Regency Blue Cross Blue Shield.

January was arrested in June after a more than yearlong investigation. She pled guilty Sept. 19 to charges of criminally negligent homicide, third-degree assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants. A fourth charge, for methamphetamine possession, was dismissed.

January was 19 years old on April 14, 2006, when she ran a stop sign at the intersection of South Barnards Road and the Canby-Marquam Highway and collided with a northbound semi truck. The fully loaded 18-wheel logging truck dragged January's car, which was wedged under the trailer, for about 50 feet after the impact.

January's father, Thomas Arthur January, 54, of St. Paul, died in the crash.

Angelin and her then-fiance Daniel Roth of Molalla, who was 19 years old at the time, were both hospitalized and sustained head injuries.

"(January) did have serious head injuries and essentially had to learn how to walk again," Clackamas County deputy district attorney Bryan Brock said. "She was thought to be not likely to survive at one time."

The level of methamphetamine in January's blood at the time of the crash, 360 nanograms per milliliter, was more than 10 times what would have been considered a "safe" level to drive, Brock said.

However, since the crash, January told the court she has been clean, a statement that Brock said was backed up by weekly urine analysis tests taken while she was on home detention prior to sentencing.

"That seems consistent with her statement that this was the life altering event that changed her path," he said.
